AI Search Series
Problem
Lucidworks creates a world-class search experience that you’ve probably used without realizing it on sites like Costco, REI, and Lenovo. Search engines are complicated enough, but then add in a suite of customizable AI-powered add-ons and you’ve got amazing products that can be difficult to explain to say the least. The problem is two-fold: how do I simplify AI-powered technology? And how do I pull down the cost per video while maintaining premium video quality for a premium product?
Final still.

Strategy
To pull down the cost per video, I collaborated with Lucidworks to find repeatable style and video elements that I’d only have to make once – rinse and repeat. Then I helped Lucidworks in the script writing process to keep the duration of each video to a manageable length. Length and style are the biggest factors in a video’s cost. And by doing a series of videos, we were able to cut the cost per video in half compared to just doing one.
And finally, how does one simplify AI-powered technology? Honestly, it helps to be a beginner. And it helps to have access to experts. Lucidworks was generous in giving me multiple Zoom meetings with their experts to ask all the questions I wanted so I could figure out the core patterns, concepts, and symbols.

Ended up building the network effect in Houdini.
